Root Canals
Root Canals in Portsmouth, NH
A root canal is a treatment used to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed, damaged or becomes infected. During a root canal procedure, our dentists remove the nerve and pulp of a tooth. The inside of the tooth is cleaned and sealed. Finally, the tooth is filled with a dental composite. Without treatment, the tissue surrounding the tooth will become infected and form an abscess.
If your tooth had extensive decay, it may be weak so our dentists may suggest placing a crown to strengthen and protect the tooth. A root canal procedure typically takes two visits. Some root canals may be referred out to a dentist who specializes in root canal therapy.
